Growing up playing soccer, I sustained many injuries throughout my career which left me assuming that I would always lack flexibility and stability in my joints.
As my education into the body deepened through a comprehensive classical Pilates certification, I learned to recognize the imbalances and poor compensation patterns in my movements. Addressing and correcting these issues has led to less pain and a deeper understanding of how the body is designed to function.
I am now able to use this experience in combination with Horizon’s data-driven road mapping to provide patients with a way out of pain and back to the activities that make life worth living.
I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and then went on to receive my Master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University in Nutrition Science. I enjoyed working as a personal trainer and fitness instructor throughout my time in college.
I began my dietetics career in Paris, Texas as the Chief Clinical Dietitian at St. Joseph’s Hospital. I moved to Houston and began a career with Healthcorp South, first as a clinical dietitian and then as the interim Director of Nutrition and Food Services.
I moved to Tyler 30 years ago and started my business as a nutrition consultant. I worked in long-term care, cardiovascular nutrition education and research, pediatric special needs, and medical nutrition therapy in a weight-loss research program. I also provided nutrition education for patients at several physicians' clinics in the east Texas area.
I enjoy helping others improve their quality of life and health by teaching them how to develop healthier lifestyles through nutrition education.
I am a 7th generation Texan with over 25 years experience in nursing. Starting out as a nurse's aid in long-term care, I knew from an early age that I wanted to be in nursing forever. Over the years, I continued to advance my education ultimately receiving my Master's degree with Advanced Practice Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
I blend my love for the aging population with my passion for healthy living by implementing a proactive, preventative and compassionate hands-on approach. As we age, we can (and we must) maintain our vitality!
My husband and I have been married more than 25 years and we have four children along with two grand-babies. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, shopping, traveling and spending quality time with my family. I am the ultimate book-worm and life-long learner, and always make time to research the latest functional trends.
I am from Tyler, TX and attained my Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of North Texas in 2001. My training and practice specialties have included Geriatric Neuropsychology and Health/Rehabilitation Psychology. Through my career I’ve had the opportunity to work with chronic pain patients, injured workers, and veterans.
Physical activity has long been a priority for me. At the University of Texas at Austin I was an All-American and National Champion swimmer. In later years I took up running and competed in the Boston Marathon. These days, if not out running, I’m in the gym or on the lake windsurfing.
More and more, science is showing us that the link between emotional wellbeing and physical health is very important. Often referred to as the Mind-Body Connection, our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors have a huge impact on our healthspan and longevity. My goal at Horizon Health is to explore and optimize this Mind-Body Connection so people can achieve the healthspan they desire.

I obtained my degree from Louisiana Tech University and have been a Registered Dietitian for more than 24 years. My career includes many years working at Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport working in various roles including cancer, burn, trauma, critical care, pediatrics, medical student education and nutrition student preceptorship.
Throughout the years, I have provided nutrition education for various nutrition needs across the life span, working with pediatric specific needs to the needs of the aging adult and everything in between. Keeping abreast of the new literature and studies is something I enjoy.
I have lived in Tyler for 16 years and enjoy baking, teaching preschool Sunday School, gardening, sports photography, painting and spending time with family. I married my high school sweetheart, Chris, who is a physician in Tyler and we have three children.
